So ladies, apparently we’re leaving the men with way too much “baggage” when we exit stage left in relationships, LOL. I don’t know about you but the emotional headache and heartache that they put us through seems like a fair trade off. Still the word on the street is the top five things men get left with after a relationship dissolves are Rent, and Unwanted Car, Credit Card Debt, Property Damage, and Pet Responsibility. I’m pretty sure I’ve never had this issue, but I just wanted to give you all a chance to hear this from a male perspective…
Almost every guy has dealt with having to co-sign for their girlfriend’s car, but what happens when they leave you? I had a conversation with one of our male customers who recently was engaged. It suddenly got broken off and his fiancé decided after the breakup she didn’t want the car either. It got us thinking. We all know about emotional baggage. But what are the biggest types of financial baggage a dude has to deal with after a breakup? So we went out and polled more than 500 of the men that use LeaseTrader.com. Here are the results:
The top five financial issue that guys face after a breakup, according to user activity on LeaseTrader.com
1. Rent
2. Unwanted Car
3. Credit Card Debt
4. Property Damage
5. Pet Responsibility
It was astounding that 45% of men were stuck with rent related issues and 39% were left with a car payment. Credit card debt accounted for 10% which includes, jewelry, expensive trips, and clothing. The last two only consisted of less than 6% of the survey.
Along with the survey, we noticed a trend that men who drove certain cars were getting left with different financial baggage. The top five cars that matched with the financial baggage were:
1. Majority of Mercedes drivers said their biggest financial headache was dealing with a mortgage situation when their ex left.
2. Majority of Range Rover drivers said they were left dealing with an unwanted car by their ex.
3. Majority of BMW drivers spent the most on expensive jewelry and luxurious trips.
4. Majority of Toyota drivers seemed to most often get stuck with property damages.
5. Majority of Lexus drivers were the most sensitive and left on the hook for financial pet responsibilities.
We’re not exactly sure WHY drivers of these vehicles had those types of financial baggage - it’s just what our survey data indicated. I guess for single men it’s a matter of picking their poison?
So ladies think back on your past relationships, have YOU left a man in with any of these financial responsibilities?
