LeaseTrader.com reports after quizzing 500 men and women about their driving habits that men are more likely to get answers on a driver's test right than women (59% to 46%). At the same time, results show both sexes need to brush up on their studies because 75% of test takers flunked.

Ride: Rules of the road seem to fade with age

Based on the findings of a survey by LeaseTrader.com, it seems that drivers fail to retain the basic rules of the road after passing their first written driver test. The more time that has passed since a driver first took a written exam, the survey found, the less he or she remembers.

"It's a little bit alarming," said John Sternal, vice president of marketing communications for LeaseTrader.com. "Some of these questions are really, really serious issues as far as driver safety."

But the market for new vehicles has been upended this spring because of disruptions caused by the March 11 earthquake in Japan. Parts shortages have forced many automakers to temporarily stop production, causing a ripple effect that means lower

Most experienced U.S. drivers don't measure up

But rather at the Germans' driving skills.

I couldn't get over how rush hour moved so swiftly and efficiently. I noticed no road rage, no accidents and no jams. Drivers on the famed Autobahn had proper etiquette. They moved aside for faster vehicles and obeyed the posted speed limits where they existed.

A German man explained to me that it's very difficult to get a driver's license in Germany. In fact, most drivers fail both the driving and written tests at least three times. He...

High used-car prices make it ideal time to sell, but not to buy

It’s a great time to sell a used car. But if you’re in the market for a new car, expect to shell out more dough.

Overall average prices for new cars increased $150 in the first week of May from the previous week and are up $350 since the March earthquake in Japan caused production problems, according to Edmunds.com.

The selling prices for used cars are at a 16-year high, in part because people are holding on to their vehicles longer, creating a tight supply of used cars and...

7 Luxury Sedans to Love and Lease

With the 2008 economic meltdown, car leasing nearly went the way of the brontosaurus.

Does it pay off to buy a small car?

Small-car sales are surging as gas prices race toward $5 a gallon -- regular unleaded rose 41 cents a gallon in the past month -- but Free Press research shows that it can take time for the purchase of a new small car to really pay off.

Regular unleaded averaged $3.96 a gallon in Michigan on Monday, up $1.05 a gallon from a year ago. And small cars generally get better fuel economy, often up to or more than 40 m.p.g. on the highway, but their prices are rising.

"This summer is...
